Bates Utility Company performs a variety of tunneling & boring services to support your project needs.

Auger Boring
Casing pipe is jacked into the earth’s surface. Simultaneously, rotating helical augers remove the excavated spoil. This method can bore through soft ground, rock and mix face ground conditions.

Guide Boring
A combination of pilot tube steering and conventional auger boring thus ensures a bore on line and grade. This method can bore through soft ground, rock and mix face ground conditions.

Hand Mining
Tunnel face is manually excavated with hand tools. This application allows obstacles to be removed from the tunnel face.

Pipe Ramming
Pneumatic percussion is used to drive a steel casing through the ground. This can swallow boulders and cobbles within the tunnel alignment. Pipe ramming is a non-steerable operation typically used under railroads and roads.
